Public Records Commission

Tennessee law [Tennessee Code Annotated 10-7-401] requires that each county have a public records commission "in order to provide for the orderly disposition of public records created by agencies of county government." As of January 2011, the members of the Knox County Public Records Commission are:

  • Judge Dale Workman, Chairman
  • Sherry Witt, Register of Deeds
  • Foster Arnett, County Clerk
  • Tony Norman, Commissioner
  • Steve Cotham, County Historian
  • Doris Martinson, Archivist
  • Bonnie Peters, Genealogist

The members have the responsibility for reviewing county record disposal requests for obsolete records. Other duties include approving fees charged for providing photocopies of records and reviewing policies regarding storage and access to public records.
