KNOXVILLE (Nov. 22, 2013) -- During its 6th annual Dialogue and Friendship Dinner, the Knoxville Turkish Cultural Center and the Society of Universal Dialogue's Atlantic Institute awarded Knox County Chief of Staff Dean Rice its 2013 Peace Award. The award was presented in recognition of Rice's efforts to promote inter-cultural engagement and dialogue in the Knoxville area, as well as overseas.
The award is given to individuals who have used their positions to create an environment that encourages diversity and cooperation between individuals from a variety of backgrounds, cultures and faith traditions. Last year's Peace Award recipient to former U.S. Ambassador to Poland and former City of Knoxville Mayor Victor Ashe.
In addition to the Peace Award, the Atlantic Institute also awarded its Education award to State Representative Harry Brooks and a Community Service award to Pro2Serve CFO and Treasurer Paul Martin.
