Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a contagious disease caused by a virus, the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The first known case was identified in December 2019. The disease quickly spread worldwide, resulting in the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Knox County Health Department (KCHD) continues to work with the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) and follows Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance regarding COVID-19 in Knox County. Those with questions can call 865-215-5000 to speak with a representative from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. People with concerns about their health should contact their health care provider.

  1. COVID-19 Vaccines
    • Updated vaccines are available. Click here to view COVID-19 vaccine recommendations.
    • Before you visit, please contact the location directly for complete details, including vaccine availability and your eligibility.
    • The community vaccine team also offers vaccines at community events. Follow KCHD on social media platforms to view upcoming events.
  2. COVID-19 Testing
    • COVID-19 testing will be offered at KCHD from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Mondays at the main KCHD location (140 Dameron Ave). Please come in the main entrance. Monday, March 18, will be the last day of Covid testing at KCHD.
    • If you have insurance, please bring your insurance card. For questions, call (865) 215-5000.
    • Uninsured patients will not be charged for testing.

Prevention

The best way to protect yourself from COVID-19 and spreading it to others is to get vaccinated, stay home when you are sick, wash your hands regularly, and clean frequently touched surfaces.
