Together, the Knox County Fourth Circuit Court, the Family Justice Center and the Junior League of Knoxville will host Barry Goldstein, the author of “The Quincy Solution”, in Knoxville on Tuesday, October 17th.  Mr. Goldstein wrote The Quincy Solution to highlight the successful community practices undertaken in the communities of Quincy, MA, Nashville, TN and San Diego, CA, all of which have experienced significant reductions in domestic violence.  Goldstein states that the essence of domestic violence is the fear and intimidation used by domestic abusers to coerce their partners to do what they want.  Research has shown that the health risks associated with domestic violence cost taxpayers up to $750 billion annually.  Goldstein believes adopting The Quincy Solution could save billions of dollars.  Goldstein has worked in the movement to end domestic violence for over 30 years and has written some of the leading books about domestic violence and child custody.  He co-edited two volumes of Domestic Violence, Abuse and Child Custody with Dr. Mo Therese Hannah.  He co-authored Representing the Domestic Violence Survivor with Elizabeth Liu.  Goldstein is also the author of Scared to Leave Afraid to Stay.  Goldstein will speak to Knox County’s community leaders and invited guests on October 17th in the Main Assembly Room of the City Count Building from 8:00 a.m. - 9:15 am.  Knox County Fourth Circuit Court Clerk, Mike Hammond, says “I am pleased Mr. Goldstein agreed to come to Knoxville.  In the last three years Knox County has experienced an increase in domestic violence related criminal cases in our General Sessions Court, and an 18 percent increase in requests for Orders of Protection.  Given the success of The Quincy Solution in other cities, I believe it is time for our community to look at ways to reduce domestic violence.”
