Hugh Nystrom is serving in his first term on the Knox County Commission, having been elected to represent the 4th District in August 2016. Born and raised in the 4th District, Hugh attended Sacred Heart Cathedral School and the Webb School of Knoxville. He graduated from the University of Tennessee’s College of Business, with a degree in Finance.
Prior to his election, Hugh served for 10 years as the Director of Program Operations and Community Relations for Childhelp Tennessee. Prior to Childhelp, he worked for 13 years for the Walt Disney Company, serving in a variety of leadership positions.
Hugh’s community involvement includes serving on the University of Tennessee College of Nursing Advisory Board, the Community Coalition Against Human Trafficking Task Force, the Executive Committee of the 2014 Congressional Medal of Honor Convention, the Board of Directors of The MUSE Children’s Museum, the Junior League of Knoxville Advisory Board, the University Swim Club Board of Directors and as a Upward Soccer coach. He is a member of Nucleus Knoxville and the Knoxville Downtown Civitan Club, where he previously served as President. Hugh has recently served the Boy Scouts of America as a Cubmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster and Friends of Scouting volunteer.
Hugh is a 2010 graduate of Leadership Knoxville and a 2011 graduate of East Tennessee Regional Leadership Alliance.
Hugh and his wife, Angelia, live in the Westmoreland neighborhood with their son, Trace.
