I am due a refund. Can it be applied to another tax year?
Yes.  Refunds are first applied to any outstanding delinquent taxes before being issued to a taxpayer.  Taxpayers may request that refunds from prior years be applied to the current tax.

My name (or address) is incorrect. What needs to be done?
Contact the Knox County Property Assessor's office at (865) 215-2360.

What is the Knox County property tax rate?
The 2007 Knox County tax rate, as set by the County Commission, is $2.69 per every hundred dollars of assessed value.

When are Knox County Property taxes due?
Knox County property taxes become due October 1st each year.  You may pay your taxes through the last day of February of the following year without interest and penalty charges.

Can I make partial payments?
The Trustee's office can and will accept partial payments.  As long as the taxes are paid in full by the due date there will be no interest and penalty charges.   If a partial payment is made on a delinquent tax it will be applied to court & miscellaneous costs first, then interest & penalty, and the remainder, if any, to the base tax.

Can I pay by bank draft?
Yes, you may make your property tax payments through one of our bank draft plans.   Please call (865) 215-2304 for details.

Can I pay by credit card or E-check?
Yes, the Trustee's office now offers the convenience of paying by credit card. We accept the following major credit cards.

- MasterCard
- Discover
- American Express
- E-check

Can I receive a discount for paying early?
The Knox County Commission votes each year whether or not to allow early payment discounts.  Currently there are no discounts available for early payment.

Do I pay city and county taxes?
If your property is located inside the city limits of Knoxville then you are responsible for both city and county property taxes. If your property is located outside the city limits of Knoxville, then you are responsible for county property taxes only.

What if I did not receive my Tax Bills?
You should have received a separate tax bill for each property that you own. Verify the address and description on the tax bill to insure they match your property. If you have not received all your bills, notify this office immediately.
