Tennessee law [Tennessee Code Annotated 10-7-401] requires that each
county have a public records commission "in order to provide for the orderly disposition of public records created by agencies of county government." As of September 1998, the members of the Knox County Public Records Commission are:
- Commissioner Wanda Moody, Chairperson
- Chancellor John Weaver
- Mr. Steve Hall, Register of Deeds
- Mr. Mike Padgett, County Clerk
- Mr. Steve Cotham, County Historian
- Mrs. Alice Howell, County Genealogist
The members have the responsibility for reviewing county record disposal requests for obsolete records. Other duties include approving fees charged for providing photocopies of records and reviewing policies regarding storage and access to public records.
