KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (February 19, 2014) – During last year’s Holiday Festival of Lights event at Concord Park, the Knox County community donated several barrels of canned food and more than $3,400 to The Love Kitchen. Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett delivered the donations to the nonprofit’s founders, sisters Helen Ashe and Ellen Turner, on Wednesday afternoon.

“While I’m happy to be here delivering the check and canned food, I’m just the facilitator. The generosity of Knox County’s residents is what really made this donation possible,” Mayor Burchett told Helen and Ellen. “I’d also like to thank the Parks and Recreation Department, and Director Doug Bataille, for coordinating the Holiday Festival of Lights event.”

The Love Kitchen, 2418 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, provides meals, clothing and emergency food packages to the homebound, homeless and unemployed in Knox County. For more information, visit
