The Inoperable Vehicle Ordinance says that the outdoor storage of more than one inoperable vehicle will not be permitted, unless the storage takes place on:
- Land zoned I, Industrial, where such storage may be permitted as a Use on Review; or
- The site of a properly zoned car repair or towing establishment.
An inoperable vehicle is defined as any motor vehicle which does not have an engine in running condition, four tires, a battery and valid state license plate issued to the person owning the land on which the vehicle is parked. It also includes any vehicle that is, in fact, abandoned by its owner, or is not operable or repairable. Knox County will address these problem properties through the Codes Enforcement Office. To report an inoperable vehicle, contact the Office of Neighborhoods at 215-HELP or email neighborhoods@knoxcounty.org.
