Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale has four main goals for Knox County that have guided his first term as mayor and will define his second term: 1) Great Schools, 2) Economic Results, 3) Caring for seniors, and 4) Making Government Better Every Day.  A number of programs and individuals within the Knox County Government and throughout the community have helped accomplish these goals.

.

The “Every School A Great School” Foundation will generate $31 million in funding to improve learning from birth to kindergarten, focusing on an early career path for middle school children, and improving teacher compensation in difficult-to-staff schools.

.The “Read With Me” program places one volunteer in every first and second grade classroom each week to help students read on grade level.  These two programs have been extremely important in striving to achieve the goal of making every Knox County School a great school.

.As economic development is important to the growth of Knox County, it is crucial that the community remains progressive and continually provides higher standards of living and good jobs.  The JobsNow! Program has helped to develop over 20,000 regional jobs and has created $1 billion in capital investment.  This program has become essential in the growth and betterment of Knox County’s economy and workforce.

In creating a great community, focus cannot be placed on one generation of citizens over another, but as the founders and supporters of Knox County age, it is crucial that senior citizens not be forgotten.  By opening new senior centers, while expanding and staffing existing ones, Knox County is able to reach out to its senior residents through the Department of Community Services.

.Since Mayor Mike Ragsdale took office in Knox County in 2002, many government services have been improved, while the number of county employees has been reduced through attrition.  The focus of this government is to be more efficient, while challenging the way things have always been done.  Some programs geared toward making government more efficient include: The Office of Neighborhoods and E-Government!
