Scarecrow Trail Comes to New Harvest Park

Knox County Parks and Recreation Presents New Community Event

They’re not just flannel shirts and overalls anymore! Knox County Parks and Recreation is encouraging local individuals and groups to enter their most creative scarecrows in the new Scarecrows in the Park event to be held October 22-31 at New Harvest Park, 4775 New Harvest Lane, in northeast Knox County.  Scarecrows in the Park will open on Thursday, October 22, at 3 p.m., at the New Harvest Park Farmers Market, and conclude on October 31.

Scarecrows in the Park, a celebration of fall, includes a competition among groups to make the best and most original scarecrow.  The scarecrows will be placed along the greenway loop at the park.  Folks will walk the loop and then have a chance to vote for their favorites.  Public voting, and a panel of celebrity judges, will determine the winners.  A $10 entry fee is required, and The Home Depot is donating a bale of straw to each participant.

Both cash and other prizes will be awarded to the winners during a Harvest Festival at the park, on Saturday, October 24, from 11-3 p.m.  The Harvest Festival will feature storytelling, pumpkin painting, and other fall activities.  Fall produce from the New Harvest Park Farmers Market will also be available at the Festival.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Legacy Parks Foundation, which raises funds for land acquisition, park improvements, and recreation programs in our community.
