Students Help Recreation Departments Prepare for

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.—Students at Sarah Moore Greene Magnet Technology Academy will plant tulip bulbs on Thursday, April 22, at 10 a.m., in preparation for next spring’s “Tour de Fleur,” a series of greenway walks highlighting native wildflowers. The planting will be near the native garden at the school located at 3001 Brooks Road.

Beginning in spring 2011, the City of Knoxville and Knox County Parks and Recreation departments will partner to present the walks on community greenways. The city and county will plant native wildflowers, which will all be donated from participating local nurseries.  The bulbs for Sarah Moore Greene were donated by Knoxville resident Maria Compere, with the Pellissippi Beautification Committee.

Tour de Fleur walks have been tentatively scheduled on the following greenways in the spring of 2011: Will Skelton, Third Creek, Halls, Ten Mile, and Sarah Moore Greene.

If you would like to donate or get involved with Tour de Fleur, please contact Knox County at parks@knoxcounty.org, or the City of Knoxville at KGibi@cityofknoxville.org.
