Mayor Ragsdale's Statement on Tennessee Winning

Knoxville, Tenn. — In response to today’s announcement by Governor Phil Bredesen that Tennessee and Delaware are the two states that will receive Race to the Top funds from the U.S. Department of Education, Mayor Mike Ragsdale issued the following statement:

“This is an outstanding achievement and magnificent opportunity for our state.  Congratulations to Governor Bredesen, Senator Woodson, and Superintendent McIntrye who all played critically important roles in this success.  I feel confident that Knox County will receive a significant share of these funds, which will be a tremendous help in our efforts to move from a really good school system to a great one.

Dr. McIntyre and I talked this morning after the news was released.  We will be looking at the County's budget closely to see how these new funds will impact our current situation.”
