National Women's Health Week (May 13-19, 2007) is observed every year to focus attention on educating women about making healthy lifestyle choices and the importance of taking appropriate health-related actions based on individual background and risk factors. This year's theme is "It's Your Time! Pamper Your Mind, Body and Spirit." As part of this year's activities, Knox County Health Department is hosting a day of educational activities and health screenings for the public on Wednesday, May 16, 2007, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at its new Hardy Clinic, located at 2202 Martin Luther King Avenue. Refreshments, educational displays and facility tours also will be provided.
Important health screenings that be available include mammography, bone density, grip strength, blood pressure and heart rhythm readings. Workshops will be given throughout the day on topics such as heart health, nutrition and exercise, tobacco use, breast cancer, depression and preconceptual health.
