Knoxville World AIDS Day Events
Announcing Events for Knoxville World AIDS Day on
December 1, 2005.
Knoxville World Aids Day will be observed with many other communities around the world on Dec 1, 2005 from 7:00 – 8:30 pm at The Foundry located at 747 Worlds Fair Park Drive on the World’s Fair Site in downtown Knoxville. Knoxville and surrounding community residents are encouraged to attend this important event.
"The goal is to raise awareness and remember those infected and affected by this deadly disease," stated Kristin Ehrens, Knox County Health Department HIV Prevention Educator. "HIV/AIDS affects all walks of life - knowing no boundaries of socioeconomic status, race, age, sexual preference, or gender."
We are honored this year to have Chandra Harris, who brought HIV/AIDS awareness back to our community through the Living Positive series in the Knoxville News Sentinel, as our guest speaker. The evening will include a candlelight vigil, a presentation of the East Tennessee Chapter of the AIDS Memorial Quilt, and an award presentation to an HIV/AIDS Outstanding Worker in Knoxville.
The Knoxville World Aids Day Trunk will be on display, and the public is encouraged to bring items to display and donate to the trunk that can be observed for years to come. Items you may consider bringing are pictures, books, ball caps, poems, songs, scrapbooks, and any item that will help the community remember those we have lost to HIV/AIDS.
Knoxville World Aids Day 2005 is a unified effort of 12 Knoxville area organizations that supply support and care for those infected and affected with HIV/AIDS.
