Knox County Health Department Presents Forum on the Impact of Teen Pregnancy on our Community
National Women's Health Week is May 13-19, 2007
National Women's Health Week is observed every year to focus attention on educating women about making healthy lifestyle choices and the importance of taking appropriate health-related actions based on individual background and risk factors. This year's theme is "It's Your Time! Pamper Your Mind, Body and Spirit." As part of this year's celebration, Ms. Sandra Burke, president and CEO of Girls Incorporated of Memphis and former assistant commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Children's Services, will present a forum on "Impact of Teen Pregnancy on Our Community" from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Friday, May 18, in the auditorium of the main Health Department at 140 Dameron Avenue. Knox County Health Department's Hardy Clinic Offers Public Health Screenings During National Women's Health Week, May 13-19
National Women's Health Week (May 13-19, 2007) is observed every year to focus attention on educating women about making healthy lifestyle choices and the importance of taking appropriate health-related actions based on individual background and risk factors. Fountain City Parents Invited to Give Feedback on Safe Routes to School
May 14 -18 is Walk and Wheel to School Week and Fountain City Elementary is celebrating with rewards and healthy treats for children who ride their bicycles or walk to school. Additionally, Knox County Health Department and the Knoxville Regional Transportation Planning Organization, as part of their Safe Routes to School program, is hosting a workshop on Thursday, May 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the Fountain City Elementary School gym to discuss making it safer for Fountain City Elementary and Gresham Middle School children to walk or bicycle to school. Parents are invited to give input on what improvements are needed in the area to make it safer for children traveling to those schools. This information will be used to write a grant application for funding for improvements through the Federal Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program...![]()

The Knox County Health Department Offers Free Diabetes Management Series
Day-to-day management of diabetes can be confusing and overwhelming. That’s why the Knox County Health Department is offering a series of diabetes management classes on Thursday afternoons in February. The classes will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Feb. 1, 8, 15 and 22 in the Knox County Health Department auditorium at 140 Dameron Avenue. Classes are free.
