U.S. Cellular’s Calling all Communities Campaign Returns to Give $1 Million to SchoolsCome one, come all!  Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout Knoxville and Knox County the Water Quality Forum and its community partners will be conducting the annual watershed CPR (Clean, Protect, & Restore) clean-up!  The team will be at eight sites throughout Knoxville and Knox County helping to remove debris in neighborhoods, along roadways, and in stream corridors.  It’s supposed to be a wonderfully wintery day and the Water Quality Forum would appreciate help from as many volunteers as they can get, so come out, with your family to do a little bit of watershed CPR!

The condition of our waterways directly affects all of us—the places where we  play, the vitality of our economy, and the health of our community members.  Sadly, hundreds of tons of waste are dumped along streams or in areas where the trash can easily make its way through our stormwater system to our waterways.  Every year the Water Quality Forum involves hundreds of volunteers in CPR, in its 13th year, the Water Quality Forum is looking for some 400 volunteers to help resuscitate our community watersheds.  This year we are asking folks to once again step up to give CPR to eight sites in desperate need of help!

This year’s clean up sites are located:

  • Along First Creek (teams meet at Northgate Shopping Center on Broadway)
  • In the Williams Creek area (teams meet at the Church of God on Cherry Street)
  • Along Third Creek (teams meet at Tyson Park)
  • Near Love Creek (teams meet at Food City off of Millertown Pike)
  • Along Wilkins Road off of Western Ave (teams meet at Beardsley Farm)
  • Along Second Creek (teams meet on Baxter Avenue near the County buildings)
  • In the Powell community (teams meet at the Powell Station Park on Emory Road)
  • In Halls Crossroads (teams meet at the Food City Shopping Center)

Join the team, even if for just an hour, and lend a helping hand to continue the legacy of CPR as an event that truly makes a difference in our community.  All necessary equipment needed will be provided, and all participations will be provided a complimentary t-shirt.  For more information and directions to a site near you, check www.waterqualityforum.org or call Parci Gibson at 215-5861.
