Governor Bredesen is looking for Tennessee’s most outstanding volunteers for his Governor’s Volunteer Stars Awards. Each county will select one youth and one adult volunteer to receive this prestigious award. Nominations for the inaugural class of the Awards are being accepted in Knox County. The Volunteer Star awards will celebrate the efforts of citizens who strive to improve their communities through service.
“Ask a teacher how much a parent volunteer means to the education they can provide our children. Ask any United Way agency what they would do without volunteers,” noted Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale. “Our park programs, our libraries and our senior centers all depend on volunteers. Knox County is lucky to have so many who give their time so willingly,” the Mayor added.
Each County will judge its nominees on four factors: the community’s need of the volunteer service performed, the initiative taken to perform the service, the creativity used to solve a community problem and the impact of the volunteer service on the community. Recipients of the Knox County volunteer awards will be honored at the Governor’s Volunteer Stars ceremony in Nashville in October.
