Knox County's Imagination Library gave away its 500,000th book last week at a special storytelling event on Market Square. Since January 2005, the County has put half a million books in the hands of Knox County children.
Governor Phil Bredesen was on hand to make a ceremonial presentation of Llama, Llama, Mad at Mama to three-year-old Jacob Dixon, who was the actual recipient of the half-millionth book. Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale, Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam, and Superintendent Jim McIntyre joined the Governor for the reading of Llama, Llama, Mad at Mama, Miss Wishy-Washy, and The Little Engine That Could.
As part of its celebration of Imagination Library Week, the Public Library held a photo contest. Check out the Library website for pictures of County children with their Imagination Library books.
