Larry StephensLarry Stephens is serving his second term as a member of the Knox County Commission after having spent more than twenty years as an educator and coach.

Commissioner Stephens was first elected in 1998, decisively winning the Republican primary over a longtime incumbent.  Stephens was unopposed in the general election. In 2002, Commissioner Stephens was again overhwelmingly the choice of the electorate in the primary election and faced no opposition in the general election.

Commissioner Stephens is a member of the Intergoverntal Committee and was the Chair of the special Construction Oversight Committee.

Larry Stephens has been a teacher and coach at Heritage High School in Blount County, a football coach at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, a coach and Associate Director of  Admissions at Elon College in Burlington, North Carolina. Commissioner Stephens is presently a teacher and football coach at Powell High School.

Larry Stephens is a native of Knox County, having attended the Knox County public schools and Maryville College where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.  Commissioner Stephens also received a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Tennessee.

Commissioner Stephens and his wife Kenna have two sons, Jesse Michael and Joseph Franklin.  Kenna Stephens is a successful general contractor and is quite active in the Powell Community.
