Mike McMillan was born into a family long influential in local government. Commissioner McMillan is the son of the late Joe McMillan who served on the Knox County Quarterly Court and County Commission continuously from 1966 until his death.
Commissioner McMillan was nominated by a special convention to succeed his late father and subsequently elected. Commissioner McMillan was reelected in 1994, 1998, and without opposition in either the primary or general elections in 2002.
Commissioner McMillan serves as Chairman of the Cable TV Committee, and is a member of the Finance Committee and the Knox County Board of Zoning Appeals. McMillan is known for his interest in fiscal issues and works hard at stressing constituent concerns.
Professionally, Commissioner McMillan is an educator at Gibbs School where he teaches history. Commissioner McMillan also manages a family farm.
