Commissioner Mary Lou Horner

Mary Lou HornerMary Lou Horner is one of the most active and easily recognized members of county government.  Commissioner Horner maintains a hectic schedule of public, civic, and political meetings.

Commissioner Horner retired from South Central Bell Telephone Company and immediately became a successful businesswoman as a partner in Shopper Publications.

Commissioner Horner was elected to the Knox County Quarterly Court in 1976.  Commissioner Horner was elected to the Knox County Commission in 1980 and reelected in 1982, 1986, 1990, 1994, 1998 and 2002.

Commissioner Horner serves on the Finance Committee and is active and recognized in the National Association of County Officials.

Commissioner Horner has served as President of the Greater Knoxville Beautification Board, Fountain Head Conservatory of Music,  Northside Community Center, and The Fountain City Business and Professional Association.  Commissioner Horner has been an active board member of numerous organizations including:  The Knoxville Women's Center, YWCA,  Northside YMCA, The Drug Rehabilitation Institute,  Metropolitan Drug Commission, the James White Fort Association,  Tanasi Girl Scout Council, and  East Tennessee Women's  Political Caucus.

Commissioner Horner has one son, Bobby, and is the doting grandmother of Josh, Jason, and Kristen Horner.  Commissioner Horner makes her home at 7100 Chermont Circle in the Halls Community.
